Students who would like to become more confident in using English for study purposes and outside the classroom.

The course is aimed at students whose proficiency level is around B1+.

You will be asked to come to the EMA before the beginning of the semester to take a Placement Test.

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • write clear texts on topics related to their interests
  • understand extended speech and everyday conversations provided the topic is reasonably familiar
  • read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems
  • use accurate language to express their views on topical issues

Each session will cover a different topic and students will work individually, in pairs or take part in whole-class activities. The course will offer practice in the four competencies (reading, listening, speaking and writing). Key grammar points will be refreshed.

Please note that the first semester will cover only half of the book, with the second half being taught in the second semester.
It is, however, possible to sign up for one semester only.

Students will receive 3 ECTS credits for the course providing they attend regularly (no more than three absences per semester) and pass the end-of-semester test. Please note that the recognition of these credits by the student’s own Faculty depends on your curricula and cannot be guaranteed by the Language Centre.
